1. Which course do I take -- Basic/Refresher?
If you are taking an insurance reduction course for the first
time you will be required to take the 6 hour Basic course.
You will receive a 10% discount for 3 years on your Liability
and Personal Injury Protection portion of your auto insurance
plus a 3 point driving record DMV credit. Take a 3 hour Refresher
course 3 years after taking the basic course and/or a previous
refresher course and receive a 15% discount for three years
plus a renewal of the 3 point driving record DMV credit. If
it has been more than 3 years since your previous course but
less than 5 years, you are still eligible for the Refresher
course.
2. How much do the online courses cost? Click here for course prices.
3. How do I pay for my online course? After ordering your course, you will be taken to a secure page for payment. You will be asked to enter the following information about yourself: your country, zip or postal code, name and e-mail address. Lastly you will be asked for some billing information: your card number, expiration date and validation code. After you do this, press the button at the bottom of the page (to purchase). A confirmation response and receipt will be issued to you via email.
4. How long do the online courses take to complete?
The Delaware Department of Insurance Regulation 607 requires
the Basic course material to be approximately 6 hours in length
and the Refresher course material to be approximately 3 hours
in length. However, online courses have the advantage over
classroom courses by allowing the course takers to complete
the course material at their own pace. Save and sign off options
are available following the successful completion of each
individual chapter. The average time to complete each course
chapter is approximately 20 minutes.
5. What happens if I am unable to pass the chapter
test questions? You will be given an opportunity
to review the material and retake the chapter test questions
until you pass.
6. When do I receive my completion certificate?
You will be able to print your online course completion certificate
from your computer when you complete the course requirements.
7. How do I receive my insurance reduction?
Make a copy of your certificate of completion and give the
copy to your insurance agent/company. The discount will then
be applied for 3 years. Save your original copy for future
reference.
8. How do I receive my Delaware DMV 3 point credit?
Delaware Defensive Driving will apply the 3 point credit to
your Delaware DMV driving record within 2 weeks following
your course completion date. If you live in Delaware but your
driver's license is from a state other than Delaware, your
can still receive the insurance discount but you will not
receive the 3 point credit.
